Stefano di Giovanni · The Journey of the Magi, 1433–35
The three kings and their retinue crossing a mountain pass in a long procession, with the horses and hawks given the finish of a court portrait. Stefano di Giovanni, known as Sassetta, painted the Sienese landscape as a set of pale folded hills, and hung a crescent moon in a sky that is already dark.
