Cyril Power · The Merry-Go-Round, 1930
A linocut, cut and printed by hand in a handful of flat colours. Power takes a fairground ride and reduces it to a spiral of horses and poles, with no single figure given a face. The Grosvenor School artists wanted prints that carried the speed of modern life, and this is the method at full stretch.
