Cyril Power · Whence and Whither?, 1930
A linocut, cut and printed by hand in a few flat colours, from the group of artists around the Grosvenor School in London who were trying to make prints that moved like the city did. Figures pour down a curving stair in a single continuous sweep, individuality stripped out and replaced by rhythm. The question in the title is the only thing that slows it down.
