Édouard Manet · Luncheon on the Grass, 1863
A naked woman picnicking with two fully dressed men, looking straight out at the viewer. The nudity was not the scandal; the directness of the look and the ordinary modern clothes on the men were. Manet took the grouping from a Renaissance engraving, which did nothing to help his case.
