Edvard Munch · The Scream, 1893
The figure is not screaming. Munch described walking at sunset when the sky turned blood red and he felt an infinite scream pass through nature, and the hands go to the ears to shut it out. He made several versions in paint, pastel and print. The two men on the bridge behind carry on walking.
