Eric Ravilious · Corn Stooks and Farmsteads - Hill Farm, Capel-yffin, Wales, 1938
Corn stooks standing in a Welsh hill field, drawn with the dry brush and the flat, pale washes Ravilious used for landscape. He builds depth out of pattern rather than atmosphere: rows of stooks getting smaller, a track, a farm, bare hills behind. The sky is left almost as unpainted paper.
