Eric Ravilious · Dangerous Work at Low Tide, 1940
Ravilious was an official war artist by 1940, and this is what that meant in practice: men working on the foreshore at low tide dealing with mines. The palette stays the same pale grey-green he used for peacetime downland, which is part of what makes the wartime sheets unsettling.
