Eric Ravilious · Field Elm, 1932
A single elm standing in open country, drawn with the fine dry stroke Ravilious used for everything. The tree is placed slightly off centre and given a lot of empty field, so the picture is as much about the space around it as the tree. Elms of this kind had largely vanished from England by the 1970s.
