Furlongs was a farm cottage on the Sussex Downs belonging to the artist Peggy Angus, and Ravilious said staying there altered his whole outlook on painting. The watercolour is dry and pale, with the hills laid in as flat bands. The clutter of the working yard, the fence and the chalk track are given exactly as much attention as the view.
