Eric Ravilious · Geraniums and Carnations, 1938
Pot plants on a sill, painted with the same dry brush and pale palette as his landscapes. Ravilious treats geraniums as structure — stems, leaf discs, the rim of the pot — rather than as a display of colour, which is why a flower piece by him looks like a piece of the Downs indoors.
