Eric Ravilious · River Thames, Chiswick Eyot, 1933
The Thames at Chiswick at low water, with the eyot and the mud given as flat pale shapes. Ravilious treats a river in London exactly as he treats the Downs: no incident, no figures, and the interest carried by the lines the tide leaves behind.
