Eric Ravilious · The Causeway, Wiltshire Downs, 1937
A causeway cutting across the Wiltshire chalk, with the track, the fences and the furrows all pulling the eye over the rise. Ravilious used the downs as a set of lines rather than a view, and the bleached look comes from working the brush nearly dry over rough paper.
