Eric Ravilious · Wet Afternoon, 1928
Rain over a Sussex hillside, laid in with a dry brush so the paper grain breaks up every stroke. Ravilious almost never painted a figure, and never painted weather as drama: the rain here is a texture over the whole sheet, the same way the ploughed lines and the fence palings are textures.
