Frederick Carl Frieseke · Girl at the Writing Desk, 1927
A woman writing, lit from a window, with the wallpaper, the dress and the light on the desk all painted at the same high key. Frieseke spent most of his career in France and was frank that his real subject was sunshine falling on things, which is why the writing itself gets no attention at all.
