Gustav Klimt · Baby (Cradle), 1917–18
A pyramid of blankets and patterned cloth with an infant's face at the top, painted in the last year of Klimt's life. Almost the whole canvas is textile. It is the least sentimental picture of a baby imaginable: the child is the small pale accident on top of a mountain of pattern.
