Gustav Klimt · Hygieia, 1900–1907
A detail from the ceiling paintings Klimt made for Vienna University, showing the goddess of health with a snake at her arm. The full scheme was attacked as obscene and ugly, Klimt eventually bought the paintings back, and the originals were destroyed by fire in 1945. Only photographs and details remain.
