Gustav Klimt · Mada Primavesi, 1912
A nine-year-old girl standing square to the viewer with her hands behind her back, entirely composed. Klimt made many preparatory drawings and kept adjusting the stance. The floor and wall behind are pure pattern, so the child is the only solid thing in the picture, and she looks straight out of it.
