Henry Raeburn · The Reverend Robert Walker Skating on Duddingston Loch (The Skating Minister), 1795
A minister of the Church of Scotland, arms folded, skating on one leg with complete composure. The Edinburgh Skating Society required a test of skill for membership, and this is what competent looked like. The figure is painted crisply while the loch and hills behind are thinned almost to nothing, which is what throws him forward off the surface.
