James Jebusa Shannon · Jungle Tales (Contes de la Jungle), 1895
Children absorbed in a story, painted with a loaded brush and a high-key palette by an American who built a successful career in London. Shannon puts the figures in a shallow space with almost no setting, so the whole picture depends on the tilt of the heads and the fall of white fabric.
