Ohara Koson · Roaring Tiger, 1900–45
A tiger in heavy fur, worked up through many impressions to get the depth of the coat. Koson never saw one: Japanese print designers worked from other pictures and from imported illustrations, which is why the anatomy is slightly invented and the presence is not.
