Paul Fischer · Nude Bathers on a Beach, 1912
Bathers on a Danish beach, painted in full sun with the light coming off the sand as strongly as off the water. Fischer was one of the painters who made the everyday middle-class holiday a legitimate subject, and the picture takes its pleasure seriously and its symbolism not at all.
