Paul Gauguin · Tahitian Women on the Beach, 1891
Two women on the sand, painted in broad flat areas of pink, orange and black, with the ground tipped up so there is almost no horizon. Gauguin outlined his figures in dark contour, a technique borrowed from cloisonné enamel, and it is what gives these pictures their weight.
