Pierre-Auguste Renoir · The Luncheon of the Boating Party, 1881
A real lunch at a real restaurant on the Seine at Chatou, painted with Renoir's friends as the guests. The woman playing with the small dog at the front is Aline Charigot, who later married him. Everyone is at a different stage of the afternoon, and the striped awning flattens the light into something warm and indoor even though the room is open on two sides.
