Pierre-Auguste Renoir · The Umbrellas, 1886
Renoir painted this in two goes several years apart, and did not repaint the first part, so the picture contains two different versions of him. The women on the right are soft and warm in his earlier manner; the figures on the left, especially the woman with the basket, are drawn with harder outlines and cooler colour. The umbrellas hold the two halves together.
