Pieter Bruegel the Elder · Landscape with the Fall of Icarus, 1560
A ploughman works his furrow, a shepherd looks at the sky, and in the bottom right corner a pair of legs disappears into the water. That is Icarus, fallen out of the sun, and nobody in the picture notices. The whole composition is built to make you miss him too: the eye goes to the horse, the sail, the coastline, and only then to the splash.
