Vincent Van Gogh · Self Portrait With Bandaged Ear, 1889
Painted a few weeks after he cut off part of his own ear, with the bandage on the wrong side because he was working from a mirror. Behind him are a Japanese print and an empty canvas on the easel. He made two versions and sent neither to his brother.
