Wassily Kandinsky · Yellow-Red-Blue, 1925
By 1925 Kandinsky was teaching at the Bauhaus and had moved from loose improvisation to geometry: circle, triangle, grid, straight line. The picture divides into a pale, angular yellow left and a deep blue right, with red holding the join. He was arguing, in his teaching and his writing, that these shapes and colours worked on people the way musical notes do.
